Special Bacteriology Laboratory Medical Specialist
Job Description:
The primary purpose of this position is to perform culture isolation and identification of bacteria that are unusual or difficult to identify. Traditional culture methods for bacteriology are employed as well as specialized staining and molecular techniques. Working at Biosafety level 2+ using proper containment techniques and personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
Duties include:- Responsibility for quality control and quality assurance for work performed, review and revision of written procedures, lab inventory, and flexibility to be cross-trained into other areas of the laboratory to provide coverage and workload assistance.
- Providing consultation to physicians, epidemiologists, nurses, and other laboratorians, and inputting data into the laboratory information system.
- Assisting the Enterics laboratory (cross-training provided) in the absence of the Enterics Specialist or during periods of high specimen volume.
