Projects will vary and deliverables will represent Bureau-wide impact in the following administrative program areas enabling OSMRE to meet its statutory obligations: occupational health and safety and emergency management; sustainability; and continuity of operations. Interns will provide direct assistance to OSMRE program officials in accomplishing the following major projects: evaluating Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and Chemical Hygiene Plans (CHP) submitted from across the Bureau; research and data collection to facilitate Bureau accomplishment of federal sustainability goals as required by Executive Order, statute, and policy; and assisting with development of policies and procedures to aid the Bureau in performing its mission in a contingency environment.

The Semester Internship Program provides a career exploration opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students and recent graduates. Interns work in OSMRE Headquarters, regional, and field offices and gain professional experience with a federal regulatory agency.

Interns conduct research assignments and participate in group projects to build their resumes in their fields of interest. Assignments include environmental science, community development, communications, data analysis, and more.
