Summer Intern - Undergraduate: Emergency Management #91571

This position is based out of North White Plains, NY. 

Position Objective:

Metro North Railroad’s Office of System Safety is seeking a qualified summer Emergency Management Intern to assist the Emergency Management and Fire Safety Division in developing and maintaining GIS-based emergency management planning data. The selected intern will participate in the development of agency emergency plans, design and collection of GIS emergency response and resource datasets, and support the design and facilitation of emergency response training and exercises.

Responsibilities:

Support the development of a GIS-enable emergency management database.

Support field-based emergency asset, resource data collection and validation.

Support internal and stakeholder emergency management training and exercise programs.

Travel along the Metro-North territory as needed.

Required Qualifications: 

Knowledge, training and/or experience in emergency management (NIMS/ICS/HSEEP).

Previous participation in emergency response and/or full-scale exercises.

Experience with GIS and database software platforms.

Background collecting, managing and producing data.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and/or comparable PC applications.

Required Education/Experience:

Matriculated undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Emergency Management, Geographic Information Systems and/or a related field.

Other Information:

Interns must be available to work 35 hours a week from May 30, 2018 to August 10, 2018.

Interns are only authorized to work during regular business hours (no off hours, weekends, etc.).

Applicants must be 18 years or older and must have valid authorization to work in the United States.

Transcripts: A current copy of transcript will be required; full time status for undergraduate and part or full time for graduate interns.

A medical exam will be required for all safety sensitive positions.

A background check is required.

Periodic feedback/surveys and final project assignments will be required as part of the internship program.

Students will be required to attend New Hire Orientation and Speaker Series meetings in our NYC facility.

All interns are required to complete a Final Group Project and presentation.

Interns may be required to travel to different locations in NY and CT.
