Summer Intern - Graduate: Corporate Compliance Job # 91448

Position Objective:
Corporate Compliance assists Metro-North Railroad (MNR) departments in their efforts to ensure that the Railroad meets internal and external expectations to minimize risks financially, operationally and administratively. We work to strengthen the ability to achieve and maintain high standards in all of its operations. Corporate Compliance serves as a liaison to all auditing activities, and works with the departments to develop and update Corporate Policies and Operating Procedures.

This position will report to the Assistant Director of Corporate Compliance and will support Metro-North’s Corporate Compliance and Strategic Initiatives unit by assisting with the review/update of business processes as well as the completion of the annual Internal Controls testing process and reporting. Other tasks may include researching regulation and policy matters and following up with departments on remediation activities which ensure Metro-North is in compliance with governing entities.

Responsibilities: 

In conjunction with Manager of Corporate Compliance work with departments to review/update business processes and internal control descriptions and tests.

Assist department representatives with testing procedures and documentation.

Other tasks as assigned, such as researching regulations and policies, and following up with department representatives.

Required Qualifications: 

Strong customer service, organizational and time management skills.

Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.

Ability to do comprehensive research, grasp complexity, problem solve, make some decisions and meet tight deadlines.

Must be able to maintain and protect confidentiality.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and/or comparable PC applications.

Required Education/Experience:

Matriculated graduate student majoring in Communications, Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration Policy and/or related field.

Demonstrated business experience including development and/or managing of projects and initiatives.

Other Information:

Interns must be available to work 35 hours a week from May 30, 2018 to August 10, 2018.

Interns are only authorized to work during regular business hours (no off hours, weekends, etc.).

Applicants must be 18 years or older and must have valid authorization to work in the United States.

Transcripts: A current copy of transcript will be required; full time status for undergraduate and part or full time for graduate interns.

A medical exam will be required for all safety sensitive positions.

A background check is required.

Periodic feedback/surveys and final project assignments will be required as part of the internship program.

Students will be required to attend New Hire Orientation and Speaker Series meetings in our NYC facility.

All interns are required to complete a Final Group Project and presentation.

Interns may be required to travel to different locations in NY and CT.
