Summer Intern - Graduate: Strategic Initiatives #91454

Position Objective:

The Strategic Initiatives Department is a dedicated unit that facilitates the implementation of Our Strategic Plan. Our role is to communicate and educate all departments about Our Strategic Plan. We assist departments in communicating Our Strategic Plan to align department and employee goals with MNR strategic goals and objectives. Strategic Initiatives provides feedback to various departments with information collected from departments or individual employees where an activity was identified for improvement.

This position will report to the Assistant Director of Strategic Initiatives and will support MNR's Corporate Compliance & Strategic Initiatives unit by assisting with strategic business process research and reporting. Work on research and development of new corporate project implementation tracking and presentation methods and tools, assist with MNR's Benchmarking Steering Group, and support MNR's participation in the International Suburban Rail Benchmarking Group (ISBeRG).

Responsibilities:

Research and development of new corporate project implementation tracking and presentation methods and tools for reporting on: business process improvements; audit recommendations and other corrective actions; and initiatives, projects, and performance reporting related to MNR’s strategic business plan.

Data collection, analysis, and management of Metro-North’s participation in the International Suburban Rail Benchmarking Group (ISBeRG).

Assist with coordination efforts for MNR’s Benchmarking Steering Group, an inter-departmental group designed to pioneer innovation, change, and forward-thinking ideas within the company.

Must be able to maintain and protect confidentiality.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and/or comparable PC applications.

Required Education/Experiences:

Matriculated graduate student majoring in Communications, Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration Policy and/or related field.

Demonstrated business experience including development and/or managing of projects and initiatives.

Other Information: 

Interns must be available to work 35 hours a week from May 30, 2018 to August 10, 2018.

Interns are only authorized to work during regular business hours (no off hours, weekends, etc.).

Applicants must be 18 years or older and must have valid authorization to work in the United States.

Transcripts: A current copy of transcript will be required; full time status for undergraduate and part or full time for graduate interns.

A medical exam will be required for all safety sensitive positions.

A background check is required.

Periodic feedback/surveys and final project assignments will be required as part of the internship program.

Students will be required to attend New Hire Orientation and Speaker Series meetings in our NYC facility.

All interns are required to complete a Final Group Project and presentation.

Interns may be required to travel to different locations in NY and CT.
