Seasonal Field Botany Technician (Rare Plant Monitoring)

The Conservation Research Program at the Institute for Applied Ecology (www.appliedeco.org) is hiring two seasonal field botany technicians for field work and related activities associated with rare plant monitoring. These position(s) will be based in Lakeview, OR, and work closely with IAE professional staff and a crew leader to evaluate population status and habitat quality for 16 rare plant species in southeastern Oregon. The majority of time in this position will be spent doing field surveys, but will also include time spent identifying unknown plant species and performing data entry. Occasional overnight trips are expected. These position(s) are expected to start April 9, 2018 and continue through June 29, 2018.

Qualifications:
* B.S. in botany, ecology, and/or a related field with a botanical focus.
* Plant identification skills and experience using taxonomic keys.
* Field research experience.
* Strong attention to organization and detail.
* Ability to work long hours in adverse weather conditions; weather conditions will vary from cold winds/rain in the early spring to temperatures over 100°F in the summer. Must have appropriate field gear.
* Physical ability to work in a bent-over, kneeling, or standing position for significant periods of time.
* Ability to work cooperatively in small groups, and to take instruction.
* Clear, direct communication skills.

Compensation: $12-13/hr depending on experience, plus travel expenses associated with overnight field work (food and lodging). Housing in federal bunkhouses in Lakeview, OR is provided. This is a full-time temporary position with no benefits.
