DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

Description of Work:

This position requires a thorough knowledge of Employment Security Law and unemployment insurance eligibility. Detect and investigate violations of Employment Security Law. Investigate cases assigned by territory when there is a discrepancy in weekly certification and unreported issues that could affect the amount of money due the claimant. Collect and analyze payroll data and other payments defined as earnings that can affect eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits. Analyze each weekly certification for correct earnings, availability and work search requirements as required by Employment Security Law to determine probable fraud and overpayments. Initiate contact with claimants to obtain a written response to any detected discrepancies. Composes documents in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
Gather all evidence and documents to cause a fraud or non-fraud determination to be issued. Complainant on behalf of the Division of Employment Security in criminal cases. Deliver felony warrants to the magistrate of the county in which the offense occurred and will be the witness for the Division. This position is the Division's witness in cases of an appeal to a fraud determination. Work will also involve collection on overpaid unemployment benefits. Requires travel and occasional overnight stays. This position is located in the Division of Workforce Solution's office in Battleboro, North Carolina in Edgecombe County. This position will be responsible for Nash, Edgecombe, Warren, Vance and Granville counties. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:

Qualified applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

1. Demonstrated work experience analyzing claims for unemployment insurance.
2. Demonstrated work experience contacting claimants to obtain statements regarding  
    unemployment insurance claims.
3. Demonstrated work experience using Microsoft Word and/or Microsoft Excel.
4. Must be available to travel to include overnight travel and work non-standard hours.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of experience in work that provides considerable understanding of Unemployment Insurance benefits programs or other programs of a similar nature, or work involving the application of advanced investigative techniques, or work in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
