DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

Salary Grade: 57
Recruitment Range: $19,036.00 - $29,230.00

This is a permanent, part-time position for 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am-3:30 pm.
 
The North Carolina Department of Commerce is the state's lead agency for economic, community and workforce development. The Department works with local, regional, national and international organizations to fulfill its mission to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for all North Carolinians.

This position is located in the Department of Commerce Office of the Secretary in the Education Building located at 301 N. Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC and reports directly to the Executive Assistant of the Secretary. This position serves as the first point of contact for individuals calling and visiting the Department of Commerce and is responsible for performing receptionist and clerical functions. These responsibilities include receptionist duties for a multi-line phone system, including answering and routing calls, taking and forwarding messages to appropriate staff, handling public information requests for general information, sorting and preparing mail and packages for internal agency delivery, and providing clerical support to the International Recruitment Team.
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:

  • Experience performing general office tasks to include receptionist duties; greeting clients and visitors, answer multi-line phones, handling in person inquiries, relaying messages to the appropriate staff members, processing mail
  • Experience providing general clerical support to office personnel such as reviewing expense reports and ensuring appropriate supporting documentation is submitted within established time frames
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form with the general public, consumers and professionals (internal and external), using courtesy and tact in performing public contact and communication duties that may be sensitive and confidential in nature
  • Ability to be flexible, detailed-oriented and organized with multiple priority assignments
 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least one year of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
