DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

Department Mission:

Description of Work:

This position is located in the Tax Clerical unit of the Unemployment Insurance section within the Division of Employment Security (DES). The unit is responsible for maintaining, inactivating and terminating unemployment insurance tax accounts, processing correspondence both written and oral regarding the above issues. Maintains and works error pending files. The unit operates as a mini call center assisting employers with various unemployment insurance tax account questions and requires sitting and viewing information on the computer for extended periods of time. Processes a daily error printout for pending errors, corrected pending file report that captures transactions completed the day before, and accumulated error report quarterly. Processes account changes for name and address of employers and federal identification, inactivates accounts, and add power of attorney to accounts. Batch and prepare work to be scanned into CARA internal database. Assist the Unemployment Tax Document Processing and Payment Unit with Quarterly Mail Rush during the peak months of January, April, July, and October. Maintain daily production sheet using Task Tracker internal system. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and may work overtime occasionally to meet business need. This position is physically located in Raleigh, North Carolina in Wake County.
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:

  2. Demonstrated work experience gathering and analyzing information and making an appropriate determination of proper course of action.

  4. Demonstrated work experience in reviewing documents received for completeness.
  5. Demonstrated work experience providing customer service on the telephone and/or face-to-face and/or electronic mail.
  6. Demonstrated work experience communicating effectively in written form using correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.
  7. Demonstrated work experience conveying information clearly and concisely.
  8. Demonstrated work experience producing documents in Microsoft Word and/or Microsoft Excel.
  9. Ability to plan and effectively carry out written and verbal assignments within time constraints.
  10. Ability to work independently and capable of performing job requirements with minimal supervision.

Skills assessment will be conducted during the interview.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.


Management Preferences:

Experience in Unemployment Insurance.
