Mineral Process Engineer (ATH_N_0500)

Unimin is looking for a dynamic Mineral Process Engineer who will have a positive impact on the Mineral Process R&D team at its Spruce Pine, NC location. As a Mineral Process Engineer, you will perform and report on test work aimed at developing new and improving current mineral products and processes; provide technical support to operations; keep abreast of new minerals processing technology; develop and incorporate these new technologies to existing processing plants.

The successful incumbent will have the following responsibilities:
* Propose research projects based upon present knowledge of Unimin operations and the potential benefits of technologies used outside of Unimin to develop new products and mineral processing technologies for Unimin.
* Direct and/or participate with a team of research engineers/scientists/technicians in conducting corporately approved research projects.
* Respond to approved technical service requests.
* Complete and document technical service projects in a timely and accurate manner. Appropriate process flowcharts for potential ore bodies, improved product quality, or improved process steps should be developed and included.
* Conduct exploration / competitor evaluations of nepheline syenite deposits.
* Maintain a research notebook and input the work being performed in accordance with Corporate Research policies.
* Keep Technical Director Mineral Process Research informed of progress on your project and report results to Senior Management when asked to do so.
* Work with technicians and other Research staff members to improve Mineral Process Research’s Standard Operating Procedures and non-standard processes. Ensure all procedures used are reproducible and thoroughly documented.
* Act as Schoolhouse Research’s liaison with the corporate Information Technology (IT) group.
* Keep the Schoolhouse Research Facility stocked with the necessary safety equipment to complete all research and ensure that all safety practices used at the Schoolhouse facility are up to date with MSHA law and corporate policies.
* Conduct site-specific safety training and task training of new personnel, whether permanent or temporary, and ensure that said training is documented according to MSHA law.

Required Experience:
* B.S. degree in Mining, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy or related field is required. M.S. degree in Mining, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy or related field desired.
* Two years or more experience in industry / research is desired but not required.
