Software System Developer - ITS4

The Opportunity: The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has a great opportunity for someone who is an innovative thinker and has a passion for technology development. The Transportation Data GIS and Modeling Office located in Tumwater, WA is looking for a GIS Application Developer to help design, develop and maintain applications that support the planning process within WSDOT and with our partner agencies.  We are looking for applicants who possess excellent people skills, the ability to quickly ramp up on new technologies, and the ability to communicate with a diverse audience.

This position will perform the following work:
  • Constructing complex geospatial applications and services using Javascript, ESRI's JavaScript API, Python, C#, Net Model-View-Controller Frameworks, HTML, CSS and T-SQL that combines geospatial data from multiple sources and data systems.
  • Consult with clients to determine business and system requirements, designing and analyzing alternative solutions.
  • Work cooperatively with a diverse group of business customers and technical peers. Lead discussions with customers both inside and outside the department to discover business requirements.
  • Use current version control practices with TFS, GIT and other version control systems.
  • Make data model recommendations to efficiently support applications and store enterprise data.
  • Help members of your team gain knowledge about new technologies.
  • Tracking, resolving, and documenting critical application issues/bugs and logging enhancement requests.
 
Position Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or equivalent experience required.
  • 4 years technical experience developing applications in an ESRI/GIS environment.
  • 4 years technical experience programming in the C# language.
  • 4 years technical experience using ESRl's client side JavaScript API including JSON, Dojo, HTML, CSS, etc.
  • 3 years technical experience working with current versions of SQL and SQL Server.
  • 2 years GIS Analyst skills.
  • Experience with effective use of code repositories, including Subversion, TFS, and/or Git.
  • Four years' recent professional level experience using Esri ArcGIS technology (ArcGIS Desktop and Server, ArcGIS Online, and ArcSDE products).
  • College level or formal training in Advance GIS, Cartography, and Geography is desired.
  • Experience using WSDOT's Linear Referencing Systems (LRS) is desired.
 
Note: This position is covered by a union shop provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, candidates who are appointed are required to become members of the WFSE, or arrange to pay to that union a fee equivalent to its regular monthly dues. The union shop provision shall be effective on the first day of the month following the employee's initial 30 days in this classification.
