Olympus R&D Engineering Intern, Summer 2018 - Brooklyn Park, Minnesota

Job Description

Brooklyn Park, MN - The Olympus Internship Program is a 13 week experience designed for college or graduate students to further their education and development goals by undertaking meaningful projects and assignments within Olympus. The program features core curriculum sessions, focused projects to advanced business needs, and observation, job shadowing and networking to expand interns’ professional horizons.

We are seeking Engineering Interns who will assist the Engineering teams.  The intern will be a member of multi-disciplinary team working on a variety of projects and assignments.

Relocation assistance and the opportunity to work remotely are not available for this position. This is a short-term position that will run for approximately 13 weeks.

* Summer session will run from mid-May through mid-August of 2018.
* Review and placement of interns will begin immediately.

Job Duties:

* Support activities involved with the design and development of new products.

* Interact with engineers of various engineering & science disciplines

* Assist with test method development for new clinical indications (fixtures, methods, GR&R etc.)

* Assist in the prototype design of various aspects of medical devices, with a focus on design for manufacturability, ergonomics and reduction in overall product cost

* Assist with product verification and validation testing requirements, testing protocols and testing reports to ensure products meet specification.

* May assist with the investigation and problem solving of critical product/process problems on demand.

* Will be introduced to and may assist in performing design analysis, e.g. tolerance stack-ups, strength of materials (factor of safety), FEA risk analysis, etc. required for new and existing products.

* May conduct bench top tissue studies under engineering direction.

* Perform all other essential duties as assigned.
 

Job Requirements:

(ONLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL BE CONSIDERED)

* Must be a college student pursuing an engineering degree or similar.

* Must have completed sophomore year status of a Bachelor's Degree at an accredited 4-year college and/or be currently enrolled in a full time graduate school program, graduating after September 2018.

* Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher is required.

* Experience with CAD/CAM systems is desired.

* Experience in mechanical dimensioning and developments of drawing packages is preferred.

* Strong analytical and organizational skills are necessary.

* Must have the ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic and deadline driven environment.

* Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize/execute multiple concurrent tasks is desired.

* Strong interpersonal skills are required.

* Strong attention to detail is required.

* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is a must.
