Assistant Bridge Asset Manager - Bridge Engineer 5

The Opportunity: The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Bridge and Structures Office is seeking an experienced professional engineer to fill the vacancy of Assistant Bridge Asset Manager - Bridge Engineer 5 in Tumwater, WA.
 
This position will assess and determine the Concrete Bridge deck preservation needs and set priorities for WSDOT's Bridge network. This position will provide bridge deck repair and overlay recommendations to the Regions in coordination with the State Roadway Preservation Program. This position supports WSDOT's mission "To provide and support safe, reliable and cost effective transportation options to improve livable communities and economic vitality for people and businesses" by identifying 10 years of preservation needs for WSDOT's bridge network.

This position will perform the following work:

  • Manage Washington State's Concrete Deck Rehabilitation and overlay program. This position is the primary technical resource in Washington State for identifying and setting biennium priorities for this bridge preservation funded program. This position will provide a Bridge Deck Condition Report (BCR) form for individual bridges as requested by Region and Bridge Office staff. The BCR will provide bridge deck repair, overlay and expansion joint recommendations to serve as the initial scope for future projects. Be a technical expert for HMA and concrete bridge overlay specifications.
  • Identify future statewide deck rehab and overlay candidates and set priorities for a 10 year list of needs. This process will include a review of current bridge inspection BMS element data related to concrete bridge decks. This review is done on an annual cycle.
  • Coordinate with the Bridge Preservation Office on annual updates to the BMS elements in chapter 4 of the WSDOT bridge inspection manual.
  • Coordinate with other Asset Management staff on the implementation of the AASHTO BrM software.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
An ideal candidate for this position will have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Washington State Civil Professional Engineer License
  • A thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Access, PowerPoint, and Excel computer software.
  • A thorough knowledge of WSDOT's Bridge Inspection manual and processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of the National Bridge Inspection Standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of WSDOT Bridge Inspection policies and procedures.
  • Valid driver's license
