Environmental Health and Safety Intern

L3 Power Distribution is searching for an Environmental Health & Safety Intern at our Philadelphia, PA site (Northeast Philadelphia). Within our Philadelphia facility, we have the capacity to undertake naval system design, manufacturing and integration programs of many sizes and complexity. Our products include air circuit breakers, switchgear, large motor controllers and the Power Node Control Center (PNCC).

 

The projects outlined for this internship are as follows:

 

  • Revise department safety inspections to include more relevant criteria from applicable OSHA CFR29.1910 standards. Transition inspections from generic to department specific
  • Support the implementation of EHS Incident Decision Flow Chart and enhanced EHS Incident Investigation Report. Provide floor presence to assist supervisors in completing a thorough incident investigation that identifies root cause, contributing factors and corrective actions
  • Enter data from Incident Investigations into trend analysis spreadsheet
  • Enter corrective actions from incident investigations, safety inspections, and audits into corrective action tracking log
  • Conduct formal ergonomic assessments of job tasks to identify hazard factors. Implement priority based execution of controls
  • Create Job Safety Analysis for all key positions
  • Support the implementation of formal “emergency response team” consisting of trained employees to provide basic first aid and provide interim medical assistance in the event of emergency
  • Consolidate existing and scattered first aid / emergency equipment into highly visible stations based on department population and egress building egress

 

Regulatory Compliance/Corporate Audit Compliance:

 

  • Create formal inspection procedures for reoccurring audits (i.e. fire extinguishers, emergency eye washes, ladders, etc.)
  • Conduct facility wide assessment to determine current chemical inventory
  • Ensure SiteHawk website update to include most recent Safety Data Sheets
  • Create portable master log of hazardous chemicals for emergencies
