Position Summary
 
Auditors analyze and determine the applicability of financial data, to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Read and interpret documents such as financial reports, accounts and ledgers. Understand, apply and explain the provisions of the laws, rules, regulations, policies & procedures governing assigned unit activities. Write concisely, express thoughts clearly and develop ideas in a logical manner. Exercise sound judgment and deal tactfully with others. Communicate effectively in oral expression. Assist with special projects and investigations. The basic purpose of this work is to conduct audits that assess organizational risk, evaluate the adequacy of internal controls and report this information to senior management and the audit committee in the form of an audit report.
 
 
Duties & Responsibilities
 
  1. Providing assistance to the Auditor In-Charge during the planning stage of the audit by gathering information regarding applicable policies, laws and regulations. Meeting with the auditee to determine their responsibilities, internal controls, operating risks, standard operating procedures and documenting this information in the audit work papers.
     
  2. Under the supervision of the Auditor In-Charge, conduct assigned fieldwork testing which includes performing audit test program fieldwork steps, completing test narrative work papers and exhibit spreadsheets and documenting audit test conclusions, in the form of audit observations and recommendations that are relevant and clearly stated.  
     
  3. Assist in corrective action tracking efforts to confirm implementation of management’s corrective actions.
     
  4. Assist in preparing risk assessment information gathered from meetings with managers throughout MassDOT and the MBTA to get an overview of the auditable entity, determine the inherent risk and provide the basis for the annual Audit Plan.
     
  5. Assist in the investigation and reporting of all suspected fraudulent acts as defined by the MassDOT / MBTA Anti-Fraud Policy.

    6. Traveling may be required to perform the above duties.

Qualifications

 
This requisition will remain open until filled; however, first consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
 
For purpose of bargaining unit designation, Unit 6 is equivalent to MassDOT Unit D.
 
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
 
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
 
Substitutions:
 
I.  A Bachelor’s or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required experience.*
 
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License may be required.
