Communications Specialist

Communications Specialist

Job Purpose or Objective(s): This position will be responsible for maintaining public relations campaigns, writing, scheduling events, notifying stakeholders of events, and following through, maintaining project measurements and inventory of supplies. The Communications Specialist will assist with creating and distributing press releases and public affairs content for publications. Needs strong skills in organization, writing, editing and communications.  


Primary Tasks:

1.      Creates press releases to be generated to media outlets in a timely manner, making sure that deadlines are met.

2.      Works to create invitee lists and podium agendas for events. Handles follow-up with invitees.

3.      Conducts face-to-face and telephone interviews to gather research and quotes used to develop materials, news releases, etc.

4.      Receives, researches and responds to requests for information.

5.      Maintains all public relations records including, but not limited to, updated list of media contacts, updated list of city official/VIP contacts, inventory, and equipment check – in / check - out lists, etc…

6.      General office duties. (Making copies, shredding, preparing supplies for events/trips, etc.)

7.      Assists with managing calendar and inputting calendar information into Team-Up.

8.      Assists with photography as needed.

9.      Travel to and cover CNO events.

10.  Other duties as assigned.


Required Education, Skills and Experience:

MINIMUM               

·        Associate degree in communications, marketing or public relations, or equivalent years of experience.

·        One year experience in public relations.

·        One year experience in writing press releases.

·        One year experience in editing position.

·        Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office.

 

TARGET

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing or Public Relations.

·        One to three years’ experience in public relations.

·        One to three years’ experience in journalism.

·        One to three years’ experience with AP Style writing.

·        Five years’ experience working with Microsoft Office.
