Student Trainee ( Technical Information Assistant)

Summary

This is a 12-week SUMMER INTERN POSITION between May 1, 2018 - September 30, 2018. This appointment is in the Excepted Service, and may be extended not-to-exceed 1 year. This appointment may be extended in 1 year increments for up to 8 years in total, as long as the student remains eligible for the program. Upon successful completion of the program and at the agency’s discretion, the appointee may be non-competitively converted to a term or permanent position in the competitive service.

Responsibilities
The Student Trainee will work closely with an experienced technical information specialist on a variety of food safety programs to gain practical work experience that augments training in an academic course of study. Assignments and projects will be designed to provide a basic overview of various safe food handling processes.

Under the direction of experienced staff, the student intern will apprentice with Hotline activities including responding to email, chat and telephone inquiries from a variety of general and/or specialized audiences; learning technical food safety information; and comprehending and explaining technical and/or controversial issues.

Duties include:
* Participates with experienced staff in developing responses to hotline and email inquiries, background research.
* Assists higher level employees in developing communications plan and special project tailored their academic background.
