Undergraduate Internship with University of Kentucky National Science Foundation (NSF) EPSCoR II, Track-2 Project Team

Program Description: A 20-30 hours/week (depending on selected students’ schedules/preferences) ten week multidisciplinary summer undergraduate experience to create educational module(s) and/or marketing/communication materials for one of the NSF EPSCoR II, Track-2 Project Teams at UK. The students will work with the STEM Education Outreach Coordinator and interact with Co-PIs located in the Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering Department, Chemical and Materials Engineering Department, and Chemistry Department for the development of the materials. Students will see how multidisciplinary teams work collaboratively to accomplish project work and gain insight into how they may utilize their degrees in their future careers involving educating and communicating the sciences and engineering to students and/or the public.  
 Expected Outcomes Students will: • Gain knowledge of lignin; • Gain knowledge of the research the collaborative departments are doing; • Utilize their knowledge/skills from coursework to create educational module(s) for high school agricultural education teachers to use or create project specific marketing/communication tools to be utilized by the project team and simultaneously develop materials for their degree/career portfolios; • And more.
 
Eligibility: Undergraduate students who will be classified as juniors or seniors as of May 29, 2018 in the following degree programs (or related): Communications, Integrated Strategic Communications, Journalism, Media Arts and Studies, STEM Education, Secondary Education, or Agricultural Education
Internship Dates: Tuesday, May 29 – Friday, August 3, 2018

 Pay: $8.75 to $10.00/hour depending on college level/classification and years of experience in appropriate field.
