DBM - JUDICIAL ASSISTANT
  UNCLASSIFIED TEMPORARY POSITION IN MAGISTRATE COURT
(TERM EXPIRES 12/11/18)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalent, Two (2) Years of experience working in the legal profession or legal profession or legal setting and three (3) years of general secretarial and office management experience; or, a year for year interchange of indicated education and experience equal to the minimum qualifications.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

Valid State of Georgia Driver's License or proof of mobility equivalent may be requested. 


EXAMINATION:

The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be rated as qualified. If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required, at time of employment, for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position.

 JOB SUMMARY/ DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS/ ESSENTIAL DUTIES (REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLE) / KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Incumbent is responsible for providing secretarial and administrative support to an assigned judge. Responsibilities include general office management of the judge's office or chambers.

Judicial Assistant is a distinct class within the court occupational group series with responsibility for providing secretarial, administrative, and office management support to an assigned judge.

Oversees and monitors administration of office budget. Trains, orients, and supervises staff members. Coordinates meetings and appointments of court staff. Prepares staff work assignments. Maintains and coordinates the judge's schedule. Acts as liaison between judge and attorneys, staff, litigants, other agencies, and the general public. Prepares and composes legal documents and correspondence. Maintains high visibility and confidentiality. Attends court daily. Makes travel arrangements and completes reimbursement forms. Attends meetings and seminars when judge is unavailable. Researches and resolves complex tasks.    


General office procedures; Personal computers and related software; Legal terminology; Legal documents; Court practices and procedures; Basic bookkeeping principals.

 

Proofreading; Ability to maintain confidentiality; Drafting from legal documents; Scheduling appointments; Organizing and prioritizing work; Operating personal computers, including spreadsheet, database, word processing, and presentation software; Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other County personnel, officials, and the general public; Communication and interpersonal techniques as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
