I enjoy working with the clients and learning how to counsel the inmate population. Everyday is different than the next and I learn something new everyday. As an incentive, the company has LCDCs on staff who provide supervision hours for the Treatment Specialists while we apply for our counseling credentials. We are promoted into our Substance Abuse Counselor positions after obtaining our credentials.
What I wish was different
Like most people, we wish for higher pay.
Advice
I follow our Assistant Program Director around as well as more seasoned staff. This has helped me learn faster and be given more responsibility in comparison to co-workers who admitted they don't do as much observing and shadowing.

Intern

What I liked
This company really invests a lot into their internship program in general and into the individual interns as well. They work really hard to help you have a meaningful experience and to gain skills that will help you throughout your future career.
The company motto is to be BIONIC (which stands for Believe it or not, I care). That culture is something that every employee seeks to apply to everything they do, which makes this a pretty cool place to work.
What I wish was different
Honestly, I wouldn't really change much about my experience.
Advice
This probably applies to any job or internship, but the more effort you are willing to put in, the better your experience will be. MTC does their best to give you awesome opportunities to learn, but it only works if you do your part to get involved and take advantage of those opportunities.
